Refugee Week, Newport #ThenAndNow
The performances at 'Then And Now!' Short, sweet, perfectly timed, magically lit. Stories told by people who don't usually get up and perform to large groups of people. Illustrated with paper collage shadow puppets on a huge screen. Each performer put their hands in water before they told their tale.
#Story 1The Starfish: Sometimes, that's what we're like, having lost our way. Stranded on a beach, in need of a helping hand to be flung back into the safety of the sea…
#2: The Mountain: Other times, we're strong, but don't realise how strong we actually are to acknowledge the strengths and talents that we have. If only we believed in ourselves more…
#3: The Bridge Builder: There are times when situations seem futile, but don't give up, keep going…an build a bridge for someone else. If you're in a position to do so, why not give someone else a chance, an opportunity...
My simple description of those stories isn't enough – It's been a long day! Only good enough to jog a memory. They were told with passion and if anyone faltered, they kept their nerve throughout. It's been an amazing day, to see everyone involved again and to see everything come together.
